Squash this week:

Welcome to our two new squash club professionals

The Club welcomes two new squash professionals to our team this week, Jarrod van Driel and Priscilla Wildsmith, who will be the resident coaches at the HBPRC. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with them.

 

Jarrod van Driel has been coaching squash for many years and also currently coaches squash at Browns Bay and Red Beach. He has coached a wide range of ages and grades and looks forward to working with you all to help you achieve your goals, improve your squash, and enjoy the great sport of squash even more! Jarrod will start coaching this Friday night at Squash Junior Club Night along with other programmes that will begin in November. 
Bookings for coaching and programmes are open for registrations online at the Double Dot Squash website www.doubledotsquash.com. There are several new junior programmes available as well as individual coaching weekly, quarterly, and annual packages.
On Saturday, 18 November, Jarrod will be offering FREE 30 minute individual coaching sessions to Herne Bay Ponsnonby squash members. There are six spaces available between 1–4.30pm. If you would like to book one of these free sessions please visit the Double Dot Squash website and book online now to avoid missing out. Priscilla Wildsmith has represented New Zealand in squash, she has played on the PSA circuit, and is an A grade squash player who has won several national titles. She has been coaching for the last 10 years running group coaching and private lessons both in New Zealand and overseas. She will be available for private lessons and group training, so if you are interested in improving your overall squash game in a social environment get together a group of friends and set up a group session with her. Group sessions are fun and will improve your fitness and skills dramatically. Priscilla's contact  priscillawildsmith@gmail.com.

Priscilla will also be running our club night starting this Thursday at 6.30pm, and will be there to give you a few tips and tricks on your game, so don't be shy to come say hello if you have any questions. She will also be running women's squash programmes at 9.30am Tuesdays, starting 17 October, more details to come.

Squash Auckland doubles interclub: entries close 13 October

Senior Spring interclub starts Monday, 6 November from 7pm, with the five-week competition wrapping with finals night 4 December.
There are eight team divisions, with two matches per night. Entrants must be graded C2 or higher; mixed teams and divisions.

Friday junior night

Get your child along to junior club night this Friday 4-6pm run by our new club professional Jarrod van Driel.  Junior Club Night is free for members and $10 for non-members (juniors bring your squash-playing friends — rackets can be provided). Food is available from the club cafe from 6pm, so parents join the fun, stay for a drink at the bar and feed the kids dinner at the cafe. This is the last junior night of the term and evenings will resume after the school holidays on 20 October.

2017 Squash Auckland Excellence Awards

Herne Bay Ponsonby Rackets Club will host the 2017 Squash Auckland Excellence Awards on Saturday, 11 November from 5–7pm at the clubhouse.

This is where we recognise outstanding achievement, performance, and service in the Auckland squash community over the past 12 months (between 1 October 2016–30 September 2017).

Tennis this week:

Great to see both familiar and some new faces for what was the biggest turnout for a club day in a long while at last Sunday's Open Day start-of-the season event. Watch this space for news around some new organized board play on Thursday's club night and also Sunday's club afternoon over summer. And thanks to Rob,  Bronwyn and Haydn, and everyone else who helped out with organziation and set-up. Looking forward to the the upcoming season!

Margaret Schot Memorial

Mark Sunday, 15 October in your calendars for the annual Margaret Schot Memorial women's doubles tournament. A mainstay of the club calendar, this year the tournament has a $1200 prize pool and will feature a full day's play from 9am. All welcome to come down and watch the action from the deck. Rain day is currently set for Sunday, 29 October.

Pilates on the court

Pia will be holding Pilates Mat Classes on Squash Court 1 every Monday and Thursday morning at 9.30am with more times and dates to come. She has been trained through Polestar Pilates NZ and has been practicing for 7 years.
 
Pilates is a full-body exercise that will strengthen and balance your body. It is for everyone, including elite athletes, the injured, seniors, pregnant women and everyone in-between. All will be catered for in the class.
