President's update

Well, we have really welcomed winter in with conditions outside encouraging all to head indoors for shelter. Busy times ahead as another squash season gets underway.

New Sponsor

I am very pleased to announce that Custom Residential has come on board as a new sponsor, taking the tin sponsorship up on Court 3. A link from our web site has been set up and the team at Custom Residential has put together the following short statement to introduce themselves to members.

"Custom Residential is delighted to be associated with one of Auckland's premier racket clubs. We're a local boutique real estate agency with a quality over quantity approach, and like to think we've filled a big gap in the local market. We believe we move at a faster pace than the others, so being involved with a top sporting organisation is a great fit for us.

When the time is right for you, choose Custom Residential's proactive approach for your property transaction and you'll enjoy a stress free experience, great result and of course, more time for squash or tennis and a cold drink at the bar.

We wish you all a successful season on court and will no doubt see you around the traps."

If you are thinking about buying or selling property take the time to consider Custom residential as your service provider. Check out the link from our website or talk to their representative, and Club member Scott Kittelty.

Squash - HB Open

Massive draw with circa 160 entries! Starts Wednesday this week and finishes Sunday.

Members please note - there will be no spare courts from 6pm on Wednesday/ Thursday and Friday. No courts are available at all on Saturday and Sunday from mid morning until early evening.

This annual event which was reignited a few years ago is going from strength to strength. Our 3rd successive tournament has a Mens Open draw of 16, and believe it or not we have A graders that have not made that draw! Same with the Women 8 draw - all A graders, and we have 3 A grade women playing in the next division. WOW!

We have players coming from far afield as Wellington

Ex World Number 3 and British Open champion, Anthony Ricketts has really thrown a spanner in the works with his entry in the Mens draw. Some of the top seeded local talent is looking over their shoulder and a bit nervous about his inclusion!

This type of response is only possible because of the following reasons

  • Our sponsors. Many thanks to KILLAR , CITYBUILD , NZ INTERNET SERVICES , SALE ST AND CHAPEL BAR , BLH ELECTRICAL, MORE 4 APPS , WAYNE SCOTT PANELBEATERS
  • Many of these sponsors are Club members and we should acknowledge their contribution personally as well - MATT TAYLOR , JASON (COZZIE) COSTELLO , SHAYNE HUBERT , MARK BOWER , PETER MASEFIELD , RHYS WILLIAMS , BRYAN HOEY AND BRUCE (SNAPPA) DOIG
  • Our reputation for running a quality event in great facilities is also important. Thanks to all the volunteers that make it all happen.

Things to look out for at the tournament

  • Happy Hour Thursday 6pm - 8pm
  • Sealords Food Tasting Friday 5pm - 7pm
  • Wine Box Wine Tasting Friday 5pm - 7pm
  • Smirnoff Cocktail Tasting Sat 5pm-7pm (poured by the Smirnoff girls!)
  • Saturday night party with live music by "The Delta Suns"
  • Womens Open final Sunday 3.20pm
  • Mens Open final Sunday 4.00pm
  • Prizegiving Sunday 5.00pm

See you at the Club this week.

Whether you are playing or not there is plenty to do and see!
