PRE AGM PRESIDENTS NOTE TO ALL MEMBERS

As we approach 2010 it is fair to say the Club is at a crossroads.

HBPRC has come a long way since 2005 when a "crisis" meeting was held to discuss the tenuous and uncertain nature of the Clubs future.

Over the last 4 years the Club has made considerable positive progress both in terms of cash flow and improvements to the playing facilities. Membership has increased / bar turnover and other income has also increased allowing the Club to return cash surpluses each year. These cash surpluses have allowed us to invest a lot more in the improvement of facilities and handle all unexpected expenditure which has come our way.

The Club however still has inadequate reserves, should anything change dramatically, and it is critical that the governance of the Club continues in the current vein. 2028 is the year we will be debt free - a fair way in the future.

Many of the existing committee have indicated a desire to step down. Scott Kittelty is standing down due to work commitments, Dave Tyler and Dealla Smith are standing down after many years of work on behalf of members.

My own position also needs to be stated. I am prepared to stand for President again and assuming I am successfully returned to the role will continue my involvement for 2010.

However, at the end of 2010 I will not be standing again as I will have completed 5 years at that point. I am however happy to remain on committee in 2011 and beyond to support the new President and continue guiding the Club, if required.

The commitment and energy of past and present Committee over the last 4 years has seen HBPRC reposition itself as one of the premier racquets clubs in Auckland. Understandably enthusiasm and energy levels do diminish after time, and it is indeed timely that some fresh energy/ideas and people drive the Club forward.

I urge all Club members to consider the future of your Club prior to attending the AGM.

Often we turn up at the AGM and by default the same old people end up being seconded onto the Committee. This is not going to be one of those years.

The current people are saying "we have done our bit" and we should all respect their wishes whilst acknowledging and thanking them for their valued contributions.

We need to form a quality Committee at our AGM that is capable of securing the future of the Club.
