Pia D’Ambros appointed as Club Administrator

The committee has appointed Pia D’Ambros as Club Administrator on a one year contract. Pia, who many of you will know runs pilates classes at the club, has been helping out with the club administrator role temporarily over the last few months.

Pia has been contracted for 15 hours per week and will be in the office from 11am-2pm on week days. She will be responsible for membership processing including new enquiries, renewals, invoicing and database management as well as managing booking systems, external contractors, and the bar, and health and safety compliance.

President Arie Dekker says the role was widely advertised and Pia was chosen after a robust selection process from a good number of well qualified applicants. “Pia is passionate about the club and its place in the community and has a bubbly and engaging personality that will help her build rapport with members and suppliers. She also has a very good understanding of Xero and an ability to pick up new systems quickly.”

Currently running her own pilates business, Pia previously launched and ran Nappies Direct, an ecommerce store that she and her husband grew into an award-winning multi-million dollar company that she ran for 15 years. Pia says this company succeeded in a market with much bigger competitors because it understood the value of committed customers who would advocate for the brand – and she sees a similar opportunity for membership of the Herne Bay Ponsonby Rackets Club.

The committee has decided to put the appointment of Club Manager – Business Development and Programmes on hold until after the AGM as the personnel and strategy of the incoming committee will be critical for a successful appointment of this key role.

Clubroom restoration update

Our insurance company has assessed the value of damage to the carpets and furniture done by vandals over the Christmas holidays and the committee has accepted their payout offer.

Meanwhile we have been looking at flooring options and costs as well as video security systems and outdoor lighting. We hope to have all the information we need to make decisions by the end of next week so new flooring can be laid as early as possible in March. We’ll keep you informed on progress.

Tennis

Club champs are coming!

Entries for this year's club champs are opening soon, so get your partners ready and pencil in the weekend of April 6 and 7 as dates to keep free if you want to play this year. We will be running a finals format across that weekend with all finals to be played on the Sunday, 7 April, including prize giving and BBQ. Preliminary rounds will be played across the preceding few weeks.
Note: we're bringing back the silverware this year; the cups in the trophy cabinet will be out and up for grabs!
As with all of our organized events, we'd like to get as many of you involved as possible, the more the merrier; and all levels and grades will be catered for across singles, doubles, and mixed. Watch this space for details on how to enter ...

Squash

Senior and Masters Interclub entries open

As some of you have already noticed, entries have been opened early for Senior & Masters Autumn Interclub in iSquash.  Senior Autumn entries close Friday 22nd Feb and Masters Autumn closes Friday 1st March.

Don’t forget that Masters Autumn will be a 10-week competition this year (double round-robin), and that there will be separate divisions available for teams of females D Grade & below.  These players can still play mixed divisions if they wish however.  Just remember when you are entering these teams to select ‘Womens’ rather than ‘Mixed’ so they don’t end up in the mixed divisions.

A full summary of the changes can be found here - http://www.squashauckland.org.nz/newsarticle/71391?newsfeedId=215282&newsfeedPageNum=2
